Television Standards

For analog video and television there were three (3) Television standards in existence.  These were NTSC, PAL and SECAM.  NTSC is most often associated with North America due to Canada, the US and Mexico all broadcasting in NTSC.  PAL was used mostly in Europe, with other countries throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa using the SECAM standard (with Digital TV SECAM has been retired and former SECAM countries have switched over to the PAL standard).  Click one of the three options below to see what system your tape might be from.  But, remember, even if your were visiting, say the United Kingdom, but you had brought a camcorder that you had purchased in Canada the recording would still be a NTSC recording since the equipment was built for and sold in an NTSC country.
